From 3 yards, draw and fire 2 rounds in three seconds. Repeat 3 times.

From 7 yards, draw and fire 2 rounds in three seconds. Repeat 3 times.

From 7 yards, draw and fire 6 rounds in 5 seconds.

From 12 yards, draw and fire 1 round in 3 seconds. Repeat 6 times.

From 12 yards, draw and fire 2 rounds in 5 seconds. Repeat 3 times.

From 12 yards, draw and fire 6 rounds, reload, fire 6 more rounds, all in 20 seconds.

From 25 yards, draw and fire 6 rounds in 30 seconds, barricade.

From 25 yards, draw and fire 6 rounds in 30 seconds, weak hand, barricade.

From 25 yards, draw, assume prone position, fire 6 rounds in 30 seconds.

From 50 yards, draw and fire 2 rounds in 10 seconds. Repeat 3 times.

From 50 yards, draw, assume kneeling position, fire 6 rounds in 30 seconds.

multiple targets and magazine changes. Train yourself with habits you would use in a gunfight. Back in the revolver days of police work they always would collect the brass on the reload and put it in their pocket. When the same officers were engaged in a gun fight a number of police were found dead with brass in their pockets. Under stress they had taken the time to place it in their pocket since that is how they trained. That 2 seconds could have been the difference between life and death for the officers. So you may decide to drop your magazines everytime, I prefer to pull a loaded magazine from my pocket and replace the spent magazine all using the same hand. I've looked for the video that demonstrates this, but I can't find it. But this allows me to replace half spent magazines if I have an opportunity. Just in case I will need the extra rounds for the next wave of zombies.

Most ranges won't allow it, but (as stated before) multiple targets. Vary the distance, and make them as far apart as possible.

Both hands, strong hand only, and weak hand only.

Movement, lateral, approach, withdrawal.

Use of cover.

Mix and match.

Slightly off topic...last night I told the little lady It would be good if we had a strategy to to escape from different areas of the house and fire in prone positions from shallow fox holes around the the house and out buildings...told her I would take a bucket of dirt out of the ground with the tractor and use that dirt to shape a small berm in front of the shallow hole.... from these fox holes I could make it to cover of the many trees on the property (I have a lot of land in the middle of no where, no neighbors for 6 miles).
She thought it was a silly idea....I had to remind her that the cops are only good for the clean up.

I have some sheet iron torsos I built and put on vertical stakes in the ground that spin when you shoot them I have some on old fire roads and others in kind of a big circle....we used to use some old beater cars and trucks here on the property to practice drive bys with these spinning targets....it was a hoot ....but I haven't done it in a few years.

We have always felt like the predator here in these hills we know um like the back of our hand....I never shied away from trouble......now that I'm in my fiftys I don't feel bullet proof any more.

BTW good advice you guys ....I need to practice some of those drills:applause_

But they don't need to be far apart, the practice of setting your sites on one target after the other is significantly better than reseting on the same target. We would practice with paper side dish plates (they're like 6" I believe) and place them on the silhouette like boobs. Not intentionally, but that's how they end up looking... seriously, I am not practicing aiming at womens breasts, it just appears that way. Anyways, the idea is to practice immediately setting your sites on the next target. If you have the facilities, try several targets, it beats walking to the stand and setting up a new piece of paper ever 15 rounds.

This is what it looks like, it's not the one I learned from, but you should get the idea

MSC,

Shifting sight pattern is good and necessary, but shifting body position and use of cover are also necessary, and not done if the targets are a few feet apart. This also applies to rifle/carbine/shotgun work.

Nub,

Don't forget that those foxholes might be used against you.

I don't know about your area, but if youwant to go "dog nuts" and really get into it, then you probably have a Firearms Academy nearby where usually retired SWAT and Military instructors have classes on everything from improving marksmanship to urban assualt tactics. Depending on the site they may even have "combat" and various weapons and survival courses.

For example here's a couple sites I pulled off a quick search and I imagine most are similar:

http://www.gunsite.com/

http://www.yfainc.com/courses.html

I have something along the same lines here with retired SWAT and Military guys that train the local Barney Fifes. I was actually surprised at how good the classes are at working to improve tactics and shooting skills.

Beaf....that's if they know where they:D the trees around here would be most likely cover.....FWIW, I'm not sold on the idea of digging fox holes either, just an idea.

BTW...How did your grass fed steer sales go....your price was quite good

Re: Firearm Drills

Complete flop, I ended up selling them all to a buyer, at commodity price.

I did have one board member who wanted to buy, but we missed connections. He emailed that he wanted one while I was gone to AK, when I got home it was too late to get it together.

I'll have morein a couple of months, already have a couple of sales lined up then...if anyone has any money then.

Sorry for the threadjack!
